The Montgomery County Clerk's Office maintains court records. You can reach them at 518-853-8111. The clerk files documents from County Court and can help direct you to the right town court if you need traffic case information. Amsterdam City Court is a separate entity with its own clerks and record-keeping system, so you may need to contact them directly for cases within city limits.
Town courts in Montgomery County are run by local justices. They do not always have full-time staff, so reaching them may take some effort. Calling during posted office hours is the best approach.

Amsterdam is the biggest city in Montgomery County. The Amsterdam City Court handles all misdemeanors and traffic violations that happen within the city limits. This court is busier than the town courts and has its own clerks who manage case files. If you got a ticket in Amsterdam, your case goes here -- not to a town court.

The New York State Thruway (I-90) passes near Amsterdam, and state troopers frequently write tickets in the area. Those tickets may end up in town courts or Amsterdam City Court depending on the exact location of the stop. Check your ticket to see which court is listed.
Note: Amsterdam City Court has its own phone number and hours, which are separate from the Montgomery County Clerk's Office.
Traffic Fines and Points
Fines for traffic violations in Montgomery County depend on the charge. Each court sets fines within the range allowed by state law. New York adds a mandatory surcharge to every traffic conviction, usually $88 or $93. Speeding fines increase based on how far over the speed limit you were going. A ticket for 1-10 mph over the limit is 3 points. Going 21-30 over is 6 points. The full breakdown is on the NYS DMV point system page.
If you get 6 or more points in 18 months, you owe a Driver Responsibility Assessment. This is a separate fee charged by the DMV -- $100 per year for three years, plus $25 for each point over six. At 11 points, your license gets suspended. You can take a defensive driving course to remove up to 4 points and get a 10% insurance discount for three years.
Payments can be made at the court where your case was heard. Some Montgomery County courts accept mail payments. The NY.gov traffic violation payment portal may work for certain courts, but check with the court first.
