Hamilton County Traffic Court Records
Hamilton County traffic court records track citations and violations in the least populated county in all of New York State. With roughly 5,200 residents spread across 1,808 square miles of mostly Adirondack Park forestland, Hamilton County has very little road traffic. There are no cities in the county -- just nine towns. There is not a single stoplight in the entire county. The county seat is Lake Pleasant, and the New York State Police and Hamilton County Sheriff's Department handle all traffic enforcement. Tickets go to the town court with jurisdiction over where the stop occurred, and you can search records through the county clerk or SearchIQS.

Hamilton County Traffic Court Records
The Hamilton County Clerk wears many hats. The clerk serves as Clerk of Supreme and County Court, including criminal and matrimonial cases. The office files orders, judgments, federal and state tax warrants, and liens. It also files Small Claim Assessment Review petitions and collects court fines and fees. On top of that, the clerk processes pistol permit applications.
The office records all types of land documents -- deeds, mortgages, assignments, power of attorney, Adirondack Park Agency permits, easements, probated wills, death certificates, survey and subdivision maps, UCCs, liens, and judgments. The clerk also acts as an agent for the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, issuing drivers licenses, permits (Standard, Enhanced, Real ID, and CDL), conditional and restricted licenses, vehicle registrations, duplicate titles, and handling suspension and revocation transactions.
The office is at 102 County View Drive, PO Box 204, Lake Pleasant, New York 12108. Phone is 518-548-7111. Fax is 518-548-9740. Motor vehicle hours are 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday through Friday. The records room is open 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM, with no recordings accepted after 4:15 PM. The building closes at 4:30 PM.

Traffic Court Records Enforcement
There is not much road traffic in Hamilton County. Most of the county is uninhabited forestland inside the Adirondack Park. Traffic stops happen mostly on the few state routes that cross the county. NYS Route 30 runs north-south through the eastern side. NYS Route 28 runs east-west across the northern part. NYS Route 8 goes east-west in the southern section.
The New York State Police and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department patrol these roads. They are the main law enforcement in every town. When they write a ticket, it goes to the town court with jurisdiction over where the alleged violation took place. Because the population is so small and the courts are small, you may find that court sessions are infrequent. Some towns may only hold court once or twice a month.
The Inlet Town website provides information about one of the busier communities in Hamilton County during tourist season.
Inlet sees more traffic during summer months when visitors come for Adirondack recreation.
Online Record Search
Hamilton County offers online document searches through SearchIQS at www.searchiqs.com/NYHAM. Access requires a subscription -- $15 for a 1-day pass or $25 for 30 days. Copies cost $0.65 per page to print. You can search land records, court filings, and other public documents from the county clerk's office.
For broader court record searches, you can use the NYS Unified Court System tools. WebCivil Supreme covers civil cases in Supreme Court. WebCrims covers criminal cases with future court dates. The eCourts system lets you view case information and sign up for case tracking. NYSCEF lets you search e-filed documents without needing an account. These state-level tools may not cover every town court case in Hamilton County, so you may still need to call the local court clerk directly.
How to Handle a Ticket
If you get a traffic ticket in Hamilton County, you need to respond by the date on the ticket. You can plead guilty and pay the fine, or plead not guilty and request a hearing. Unlike TVB cases in New York City, Hamilton County courts allow plea bargaining for most traffic offenses. The local DA may offer a reduced charge, especially for first-time offenders with clean records.
Fines follow the standard New York schedule. Speeding 1-10 mph over costs $45 to $150 plus surcharge. Going 11-30 over is $90 to $300 plus surcharge. More than 31 mph over can run $180 to $600 plus surcharge. The surcharge is $88 or $93 on every ticket. Points go on your record based on the violation -- from 3 points for minor speeding to 11 points for extreme speeding.
Most town courts in Hamilton County accept cash, money order, or certified check. Some may take credit cards, but you should call ahead to confirm. Because the county is so rural and the courts are small, response times and court schedules may be different from what you are used to in more populated areas.
