Traffic Court Records Reduction Program
The Jefferson County District Attorney's Traffic Reduction Program is one of the most useful tools for drivers who get a ticket in this county. If you are charged with a traffic infraction, you can seek a potential reduction of your charges through this program. Here is how it works.
This page explains the full Traffic Reduction Program process and which violations are eligible.
First -- and this is critical -- do NOT plead guilty on your ticket. Enter a plea of "not guilty" in Section B on your Uniform Traffic Ticket and mail a copy back to the court. Then notify the court that you intend to seek a reduction through the DA's Traffic Reduction Program. Complete the Traffic Safety Course within 10 days of getting your ticket. The course is a one-time cost of $55.00 and is available online in English, Spanish, and with French subtitles.
After you finish the course, the DA's office reviews your case and sends you an offer of a plea bargain to a reduced offense by email. If you accept the offer, sign it and mail it to the court. No personal appearance is needed. The court will then set the fines and surcharges based on the reduced charge.
Not all violations qualify. These are the ones the program will not accept:
- Speeds over 41 mph above the posted limit or over 100 mph
- DWI, DWAI, reckless driving, or AUO charges
- Move Over Law violations or fail to stop for school bus
- Leaving the scene, no insurance, or child seat belt violations
- Anyone who had a reduction in the last 18 months
If you have a "fix it" ticket for something like a broken light, and you fixed the problem by half an hour after sunset on the next business day, contact the court for instructions on dismissal.

Search and Copy Requests
You can search public records for free at the Jefferson County Clerk's Office during regular business hours. Doing the search yourself saves search fees, but copy fees still apply. The office makes records available online through SearchIQS for remote searches.
For criminal certificates of disposition, the clerk's office collects the $5.00 fee even though County Court now issues these documents directly. You need to submit a request form with the fee. The office cannot confirm if a disposition is available before you submit, since the records are no longer filed there.
For mail requests, fill out the request form completely and send it to the Records Management Department at recordscenter@jeffersoncountyny.gov or call 315-785-3312, Option 3. Summer hours (July 1 through August 29) are 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
